I’m back with another of Rob Hill‘s “The Story Behind” series, but in this case, it’s “The Unbelievable Story Behind The Empiricist.” I wish I could add something to make this video better, but it speaks for itself.

All About the Ninjas
Awhile back, I wrote about Rob Hill, his Bad Movie Bible and the videos he puts out on YouTube. I know there is a large number of us out, the people who just love watching terrible cinema bad “B” movies, awful horror flicks. But there is a small breed out there that who goes forth to document and terrible these films, and Hill does it with an encyclopedia level of knowledge, and an amazing dry wit.
All his videos are great, but his “The Story Behind…” series are especially good. Below is Rob Hill’s behind the story of Ninja III: The Domination.

Texas Music
Texas gets a bum wrap of late, and to be honest, it deserves it. I can say that because I lived there for over twenty years. I might not be a born Texan, but I’m Texan enough.
Anyway, sometimes a certain song or sound hits me, and it reminds me of that state. Usually, it’s a song from Willie or Stevie, but sometimes it can be ZZ Top.
I think it’s because it’s really hot in New York, and if it’s hot in July, that reminds me of Texas.

Woman’s World Cup: Day 5
I am having trouble with the time differences when it comes to the matches. I don’t want to sound like I’m copping out on watching. I try to stay up, but I fall asleep. Or I’ve been sleeping through my alarm. If the match isn’t at 9pm, then odds aren’t good that I will be able to watch live. What I am left with is reading and watching highlights. Not very exciting for me as I did watch all Team USA matches in 2019 and 2015. I am very proud of that fact, and sadly I am not sure I will be able to continue. USA plays Portugal on 8/1 at 3am Eastern. I’m planning on being there but I will have to fight for that one.
So, what have I seen?
USA v Vietnam: Seems the consensus about this match was that the USA was rusty, as they should have blown Vietnam out of the water. And that consensus is stupid by the way. 3-0 is a pretty serious drumming, and I get that Group E might come down to the point differential, but only Team USA would get scolded for not scoring enough points. My second take on this match is that Team USA would have had 7 goals is it wasn’t for Vietnam’s goalie, T. Thi Kim Tran. There was only so much Tran could do, and what she did was stop the American’s from rolling all over them.
England v Haiti: Caught the tail end of this one. I would have thought that England would have scored more, but a win is a win.
France v Jamaica: This was the second surprise of the tournament, after New Zealand beating Norway. Only saw highlights, and a tie is not a loss for France, but still surprising.
Germany v Morocco: Don’t mess with Germany. Germany made a loud statement with their 6-0 win that they came to win this Cup.
Brazil v Panama: And Brazil also made their statement with their 4-0 win, too.
Columbia v South Korea: Looking forward to this one. I know that these two are not high ranked teams, but South Korea has always been a scrappy team in my eye – fun to watch. Maybe them or Columbia could be the Dark House of the Tournament.

ODDS and ENDS: The New Summer, NYC Summer Smell, and Hungry All the Time
(Clever One-Liner!)
It’s hot. And not only that, its steamy, too. Not the good, Faulkner Southern Gothic steamy, but the awful humidity life sucks steamy. I’m not a big fan of Summer, and I am even a smaller fan of heat, but when it comes to Summer heat – I hate it. I grew up in Texas, and about my junior year in high school, I had enough. I was going to live up north. I’d rather freeze in Winter than melt in Summer. I had no idea how hot and steamy NYC gets in Summer. Honestly, someone should be out there telling tourists and perspective residents how bad July and August can be in The City. Sure, if you have a half a brain, you’d notice that NYC sits on a bay and well… you know… humidity follows. The thing is that now, just about the whole country, if not the world, lives in this awful extreme heat and humidity now. And it’s not going away, or getting fixed for a very, very long time. Its rather depressing that this is the world that my kid, and yours, is about to inherit – weather that is unbearable to live in. I still hold out hope that we can fix this, but if we can’t… People are going to start moving north and Canada could start having immigration issues from all of these illegal Americans.
Say, did you know that New York City’s Official Summer Smell used to be wet garbage on a sidewalk. Well, not anymore! NYC’s new Official Summer Smell is Pot Smoke! You can’t go ten feet in this town without being hit by the smell of weed this Summer. Hey, I’m for legalization, but holy crap! It’s like the entire City is getting high. Right Now!
I don’t know what’s going on with me, but for the past three days, I have been hungry all the time. When I say that, I don’t mean that I feel the urge to have a snack. I mean that I feel like I have been working all day and that I am starving for lunch or dinner. And no matter how much I eat; I never feel satisfied. Back in college, me and my roommate used to call this phenomena “Ravenous Days.” I don’t know what causes it, and eating doesn’t seem to solve it.
