  • Welcome Back, CUNY! (And some others, too)

Not sure what is going on, but for almost two years now, at the start of the college semesters, I have a huge uptick in “referrers” coming from CUNY, The City University of New York. (At leasts that what the stats provided from WordPress says…) And these CUNY referrers are looking at only one blog post:

Short Story Review: “Colorin Colorado” by Camille Bordas

This is not a complaint, REPETE, this is not a complaint…

Now, I get all this traffic from the CUNY referrers, but no one leaves a comment, or gives a like, or does anything. I appreciate the traffic; it keeps my numbers up, and one day, I just might earn a dollar from ad revenue.

Speaking of traffic, thank you to the people he keep reading the ALGOT blogs, and the Face in the Mirror short story review! You are keeping this site alive.

This is for all of you, but especially the CUNY people…

  • I Pay Attention to What You Look At

I would be telling a huge lie if I said that I don’t look at th analytics for my blog. Somedays, it is like a score sheet to see what works and what doesn’t. The one thing I have learned in the last year is that people only pop on my site to look at the Short Story Reviews. I have also noticed that in the past year, the average time on my site went from 15 seconds to 1 minute. I am flattered that people are spending their time here.

The other thing that happens is every now and then, an old post will get a couple of hits, and I have to remind myself what I wrote. Some of my old reviews can be rather cringy, a little too harsh, or just wildly off base. I try to leave them alone, not make any edits, as a testament to the moment that I created the piece.

I am surprised when a non-review post gets a couple of hits, which I take as a very high compliment. I can’t shake the fact that when I sit down to write a blog post, I still think of it like 2000 and I just started my first Blogger account. You know, in the Wild West days of overly confessional bloggers sharing every aspect of their life. That trend came and went, along with the literary glory that came with it. But still… posting is like reliving the creative enthusiasm of a twenty-five-year-old trying to connect with other people, and especially writers, all over the world.

  • ODDS and ENDS: China Visitors, North London Derby, and Fantasy Football

    (Crystal Pepsi wasn’t that bad…)

I am very thankful and grateful for the people who look at this blog; There are my friends from high school, college, and my life in New York.; And there are the other writers and bloggers on this platform. I appreciate the time you spend on the posts, and the likes you give. Then I started to notice about a month ago, I was getting a shit ton of visitors from China, who are looking mainly at two posts; Short Story Review: “The Face in the Mirror” by Mohsin Hamid, and especially Short Story Review: “My Wonderful Description of Flowers” by Danielle Dutton. No one is leaving any comments or likes, so I am beginning to questions if this isn’t just a bunch of bots pinging these posts. Has anyone else encountered a situation like this? If this does happen to be real people looking at the post, then I guess I’m a little like the band Citizen Dick, cuz they were really huge in Belgium.

The North London Derby is on Sunday! And Spurs gotta win it. Yeah, Tottenham needs to stop going into a hole in the first half, as Arsenal will not let up on them if they get a lead. This just means that my Sunday will be rather stressful. I want to be confidant about this team, but I still don’t feel that the defense has gelled together, and the Kane/Son combo has been nowhere to be seen this season. Ung… They are making me feel like I’m watching the Cubs again.

Speaking of sports; I won my fantasy football league. I accomplished this feat with no skill, and all dumb luck. See, I let the computer draft my team, and all I did was adjust the lineup, which guaranteed me a losing season. But, there are so few people playing in my league, everyone got a spot in the playoffs. And that’s when my menagerie of players decided that they should start showing up. Hence, my amazing string of victories that lead to a Championship. My second, I would like to add. No one cares about this success, except me. And now you. You’re welcome.
