  • Premier League Begins on Friday

If you know anything about me, it should be that I know nothing about how the Premier League works, and that lack of knowledge will not stop me from talking about it.

The season kicks off tomorrow, and I won’t be watching. It’s nothing personal. Brentford will play Arsenal and I have nothing invested in either team, and I most likely will be with the kid at the park. I might watch highlights at night, but I doubt it.

The match I will be waiting for is Tottenham against Manchester City. Only because the Harry Kane saga has yet to conclude. I have been wrong about everything that I thought I knew. I thought it was a ploy by Kane; wrong. He hasn’t shown up for training and says he won’t until he is released so he can sign with another team. (I might have that wrong.) Right now, odds are that team will be Manchester City. So, if in the next three days that happens, then we could have a very dramatic first match of the season.

    Or…

As my track record has gone for this off season, I could be calling this all wrong. I’m probably calling this wrong.

What I have learned about following a League where I have to pick it up all on my own, is that so much of sports has been taught to me. Either by my dad, my brothers, or by friends. It is like an oral tradition, being passed down from generation to generation, learning the in’s and out’s of the team, what the history is, and why the owners suck.

I’m lacking all of this, so I have a wide learning curve. I just hope Tottenham make it back into the Champions League

(I do know what that means.)

  • ODDS and Ends: Tottenham and Kane, Dallas Cowboys, Project Management for the Home

“Odds and Ends” is my continuing series of random thoughts and follow ups…

And… Have I mentioned that I know nothing about the Premiere League? Looks like everything I thought about the Harry Kane saga was wrong. Was my theory based on anything that I had read by professional sports writers? Oh, golly no. It was a gut feeling, and it was clearly wrong. I still don’t understand what Tottenham is doing, nor do I understand what Kane will do if he doesn’t get his trade, which he clearly wants as he hasn’t shown up for training, and the season starts on the 15th.

Also in sports, the Dallas Cowboys played a preseason game, and I could not have given two craps about it. It was pre-season after all. In all honesty, I’m not very excited about the team this year. Sure, it will be nice to see Dak back on the field, but other than that, not much going on there. The Cowboys play the Bucs on the first game of the season in about a month, and not looking forward to it.

I’m a stay at home parent, I think most of you know that, and I have been thinking that there really isn’t a project management app for people like us. I was in operations in the not-for-profit world, and in that line of work, there were apps and programs to help you manage multiple projects. I can’t seem to find anything for a household. I don’t need something with SLACK integration or any of that crap. Just basic project management.

  • I Don’t Understand the Premier League

So, I can admit that I was wrong. Or maybe I was living in denial. The Sun and everyone else is reporting that Harry Kane is going to Manchester City for 160 million pounds. I had thought it was a ploy by Kane to get the owners of Totenham to spend the money to build a team, as Kane still had one year left on his Spurs contract.

    Clearly, I was wrong.

Now, here’s the thing that I don’t understand; with Kane going to Man City, what does Tottenham get in the deal? Is MC sending players, or cash or what? I am sure this has to do with me being new to the sport, but in the States, if a player is under contract, and another team wants them, then there is a buyout or a swap of players. From what I have read, it sounds like Man City is offering a lot of money and Tottenham’s owners are letting it happen.

That can’t be right, right? I feel like I am missing something.

The only good news in the world of Tottenham is that Son Heung-Min signed a four-year extension on his contract. Now I just need to find out if Lucas, Dele, and Bale are going to hang around as well. I know Lloris will be there, as he’s out there modeling the away kit on the team’s website.

I am looking forward to the start of the season. That will be on August 15th, against, irony of irony, Manchester City.

  • ODDS and ENDS: Summer Day Camp’s Last Day, Vacations, Tottenham Anxiety

“Odds and Ends” is my continuing series of random thoughts and follow ups…

Today is the final day of the kid’s Summer Day Camp, and it went wonderfully well. I think the wife and I over did it asking the kid if she wants to go back next year. The answer is yes, and hopefully, we can give her a month there, instead of two weeks. The other thing that made me happy about the camp is that our daughter had no qualms about being away from us for 6 hours, and in fact, wanted it to be longer. To me that says she is in a healthy place with being away from her parents; She wants to separate and have her own experiences, like a normal kid.

Now we start the stretch of vacations. Yes, that is means more than one this Summer. We were lucky if we got away for one vacation a year in the past. And most of the time a “vacation” was just leaving home for a few days, and could also mean visiting family, which sometimes can be the opposite of relaxing. For us to go someplace and actually relax and not doing anything has been rare. This summer, we’re getting two trips. I feel very spoiled in saying that, even a little self-conscious. I know this is due to Covid and being trapped home for the past 15 months, but wow! I really want to get the hell out of this apartment for a couple of days.

So… Tottenham is a bit of a shit show right now. Have they even picked a manager yet? Is it Nuno? And Harry Kane rumors are all over the place, but Tottenham has him on contract for one more year, and I still hold that Kane made that, “I want to be on a teams that wins championships” statement to get management to do something, like build a team, or keep the talent they have (like Son) and solve that defense issue they have in the last ten minutes of every match! Friendly matches start up next week, so I hope to see some changes myself.

  • ODDS and ENDS – Stop Drinking Apps, Kids n’ Oysters, and Harry Kane

“Odds and Ends” is my continuing series of random thoughts and follow ups…

Last June, I took a month off from drinking. Not that I felt I was out of control or anything, but more a matter of having a drink everyday isn’t the healthiest. This year I decided to do the same thing, again for health, and also wanting to help lose the Covid weight. Then, yesterday morning, I noticed an ad on my Instagram feed for an app to help you “cut back.” And that was the phrase they kept using; to help you “cut back” on things in your life. Drinking, it’s clearly talking about drinking, but oddly not saying that. Not that I need the app, but the Cloud/Algorithm knew. It knew I was going to stop drinking in June. We’re living in The Matrix, people.

We went out to eat as a family the other night. It was strange to be inside of a restaurant again, but we are vaxed, and we want to support the local places in the neighborhood. Anyway, the place we went had oysters on the half shell, and the wife and I couldn’t resist. When they came to the table, the kid wanted to try one, which took me by surprise. I told her no, that raw oysters aren’t safe for kids, as their immune systems haven’t developed enough. I didn’t know if that was true, but I felt like it was something I was told a long time ago. (We looked it up, and the FDA says that kids over five are safe to eat raw oysters and fish.) I want my kid to be an adventurous eater, but, even though she is six, she still seems too young to me. Still, I proud she wasn’t icked out by a raw oyster. In fact, she tried to take an oyster shell home.

And is Harry Kane coming back to Tottenham, or is he going some where else? The last thing I really want to see is him off to Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea. I really hate to see Kane, Son, Bale, and Lucas split up, especially that Dele was worked back into a starting position at the end of the season. The defense does need work, and I understand why Kane said what he said about leaving; he wants to be on a team that wins trophies. I just hope the Spurs Management get their act together and build a proper team.
