And before anyone tells me, yes, I know why they don’t sample like they used to.
Anyway, I used The Sounds of Science as an example for my kid to explain and understand what sampling used to be like, being that she knows both of The Beatles songs used in it.
But what gets wedged and stuck in my head is the Pato Banton sample saying “I do not sniff the coke, I only smoke the sinsemilla.” Yeah, that line plays over and over and over…
Now, I will go to the mat and fight on any hill available to me when I say that Ringo is one of the truly great rock drummers of all time. C’mon, let’s go!
But this song does drill into my skull and won’t leave which is rather annoying.
And I guess it was time to pick on another Beatles and cut Paul some slack…
I over slept, for one.
I made a breakfast of cereal because I was tired.
I walked the dog.
I woke my daughter up.
I made my daughter breakfast.
I had a long conversation with my daughter because she felt sad and anxious.
I started laundry and finished laundry.
I made my family lunch.
I fell asleep on the couch watching an old episode of Great British Baking Show.
I cleaned the kitchen.
Made a Thanksgiving grocery shopping list.
I listened to The Beatles’ Anthology 4 while folding laundry.
I am currently writing a blog.
I still have to walk the dog.
I still have to shower.
I still have to make dinner.
I still have to clean the kitchen again.
I still have to make the coffee for the morning.
I still have to put the kid to bed.
I still have to play MarioKart and try and beat the final circuit in the Mirror Level.
I still have to snuggle with my wife on the couch as we watch Tracker.
I still have to put my wife to bed.
I still have to watch part three of Ken Burn’s The American Revolution.
I still have to go to bed.

Not a bad Autumn morning. Took this while doing the Alt Side Parking dance.
Had fun talking and playing Beatle songs with the kid last night. Right now, she’s have fun with “I Am the Walrus” and the lyrics “Coo Coo Ca Choo,” as she’s heard them referenced in other songs, TV shows, and movies. I think for her, it’s like decoding a mystery from the long ago past. She also finds the “Paul is Dead” stuff really weird and funny as well. She wanted me to play my favorite songs, and tell her why I liked them so much. When I got to “Your Mother Should Know” I was struck with how melancholy it made me. Part of it was thinking about my mother, and the music that was popular before she was born, and then thinking how The Beatles are now music that was around before my kid’s mother was born. I felt like I was grasping for a moment that had already passed me.
How do I feel about the state of Tottenham’s season so far? That’s a good question, that I’m still not sure how to answer. They are doing better than last season. BUT… they are having trouble winning at home. And the Champions League matches haven’t been awful, but it does feel like they can’t get out of their own way. Like, they are playing better, but not smarter. I do believe that if Maddison was out there, then it would be a different story, and they would be top of the table. Yes, I might be delusional.

I may have mentioned it before, but the plan this Summer, before the kid goes away to camp, is to get the living room painted. And I am one who believes that one of the best lessons we can teach our kids is that sometimes you have to do things for your family that aren’t fun; such as painting the living room. It needs to be done because the last time we painted was ten years ago, right before the kid was born. So… it’s time. There will be patching and sanding, and taping and painting. When me and the wife did it, we completed everything in two days. My guess with the kid is that it will take us four. I don’t want to rush it, because we will make some mistakes and have to go back and clean them up, and I also need to occupy as much time as possible. These summer days can be boring.
And one of the other ways I am trying to kill time with the kid is having her work on her soccer skills. She had a very good first year playing soccer for her school team, but she didn’t start, which annoyed her. Truth of the matter is that there were girls on the team that were better players than her, simple because these girls had been playing for a couple of years already. As I explained to my kid, if she wants to start, she has to work harder, and up her skills. To my relief and happiness, the kid accepted this challenge – she likes competing and winning. I do want her to getting a starting position on the team, but I am more proud of the fact that she likes working hard to achieve something that she wants.
And as we are now in Summer, and family road trips are coming, the pressure to build a playlist is growing. The wife has one that she has been working, and has been teasing us with selections while around the home. Even the kid has shown off her growing list of all the different artist that she’s found. That leaves me. I have yet to start, but I already have a bit of dread in me about this. Mainly because I seem to really only pick the same twenty songs, over and over. I can admit that my range of music hasn’t not grown and expanded as I have gotten older. But really, what I really want to do is just listen to albums. I used to take road trips and bring all of my Beatles CDs, or Led Zeppelin, and just go from start to finish – listening to how the band progressed. I used to do that with Oasis and Soundgarden, too. Since iPods and smart phones, I don’t listen to albums anymore, and I miss that. But, the game is about making playlists for these road trips, so I need to go and search out some deep cuts.
