  • Earworm Wednesday: I Just Never Liked the Song

    I would like to believe that I am not a contrarian. That if I don’t like or enjoy something, it’s because I have a good reason for it.

    In that vein, I have never been a fan of “Waterfalls” by TLC. I have nothing against TLC, I think they’re a solid group. And I fully admit that “Waterfalls” is a good pop-music song, and deserves all the recognition and alcolades it has earned.

    But I just never liked the song. Sorry.

    Yet, “Waterfalls” does have have a hell of a hook in its chorus. When I hear it, like yesterday at Trader Joe’s, it just lodges in my head. Which means I am on day two of humming that song.

  • Earworm Wednesday: Woke Up with This One Preloaded in My Head

    Am I a fan of Jane’s Addiction? Yes. Do I own a Jane’s Addiction album? No. I will argue that this music fandom paradox can exist, and does exist all the time. But I don’t feel like arguing this morning.

    Not sure why, but when I woke up at 5:30am, this song was in my head. Maybe I’m a kid of the 90’s? Maybe it’s just a good song.

    Anyway… Here you go…

  • Earmworm Thursday: Karma Chameleon

    I was like six when this song came out, so I have a few vague memories about it. First was that my brothers watching the video on MTV, as we had just got cable. Second was my mishearing of the lyrics, as I thought Boy George was singing “Comin’ a Comedian.” And third was my very straight lace, and very Catholic mother trying to figure out if Boy George was a boy, and if he was, why was he dressing that way?

    I still love this song.
