  • ODDS and ENDS: The Mugshot, Don’t Get Caught in the Rain, and Fantasy Football

    (Mr. Campbell… who cares?)

I will admit that I was one of those millions of online leeches waiting for the release of the Trump mugshot. I wanted to see it. I wanted to be there when it was released so I could be one of the first to see it. And I was very pleased with what I saw. A former President was arrested, and he was treated like any other defendant in the criminal justice system which, for me, sent a signal that no one is above the law in this country. I am also aware that not everyone will see it that way. There are a large number of people who will see this mugshot, and project their own feelings on it, to see a system out to punish political opposition. There is another reason why I wanted to see this mugshot, for I believe it is the closest form of justice we will get when it comes to Trump and the crimes he’s accused of committing. Sadly, I don’t believe that he will be found guilty on any of these charges in the four cases. He will be acquitted because deep down in our America soul, we cannot send a President to jail. We treat our Presidents like gods. Each one gets his own temple, though we call it a library. And if they happen to be one of the truly greats, we build a shrine to them in Holy City of DC. So, this mugshot, with his disgruntled gaze, is as close to justice as he will get. This humiliating picture will last forever in American history, never to be forgotten.

Walking around in the rain with wet jeans on is the worst.

I will not play fantasy football this season. The league I play in has not reformed, and I fear it is dead. The League is Dead! Long Live the League. I’m not sure anymore, but I think I have played in the league of old college friends, work collogues, and random people, for close to fifteen years. In that time, I have won the League three times, all the while just guessing on who to play each week. What brought about this timely death was the sad fact that everyone has lives that have pulled us in different directions. From marriages, kids, careers, and taking care of parents, we aren’t the same people anymore. It’s a little sad, but it does prove the old axiom that everything changes – nothing stays the same. Goodbye Fantasy Football…

  • ODDS and ENDS: China Visitors, North London Derby, and Fantasy Football

    (Crystal Pepsi wasn’t that bad…)

I am very thankful and grateful for the people who look at this blog; There are my friends from high school, college, and my life in New York.; And there are the other writers and bloggers on this platform. I appreciate the time you spend on the posts, and the likes you give. Then I started to notice about a month ago, I was getting a shit ton of visitors from China, who are looking mainly at two posts; Short Story Review: “The Face in the Mirror” by Mohsin Hamid, and especially Short Story Review: “My Wonderful Description of Flowers” by Danielle Dutton. No one is leaving any comments or likes, so I am beginning to questions if this isn’t just a bunch of bots pinging these posts. Has anyone else encountered a situation like this? If this does happen to be real people looking at the post, then I guess I’m a little like the band Citizen Dick, cuz they were really huge in Belgium.

The North London Derby is on Sunday! And Spurs gotta win it. Yeah, Tottenham needs to stop going into a hole in the first half, as Arsenal will not let up on them if they get a lead. This just means that my Sunday will be rather stressful. I want to be confidant about this team, but I still don’t feel that the defense has gelled together, and the Kane/Son combo has been nowhere to be seen this season. Ung… They are making me feel like I’m watching the Cubs again.

Speaking of sports; I won my fantasy football league. I accomplished this feat with no skill, and all dumb luck. See, I let the computer draft my team, and all I did was adjust the lineup, which guaranteed me a losing season. But, there are so few people playing in my league, everyone got a spot in the playoffs. And that’s when my menagerie of players decided that they should start showing up. Hence, my amazing string of victories that lead to a Championship. My second, I would like to add. No one cares about this success, except me. And now you. You’re welcome.

  • The NFL and Cowboy Fans

There were no Premiere League matches this weekend out of respect for the passing of the Queen, which I expected and feels like the right thing to do. That left me with that other football league: The NFL.

Just like the last twelve or so years, I’m in a Fantasy Football league with friends. I have posted many times before that I’m not the most current fan of the league, and as such, I let the computer draft a team for me. In my defense, I have won our league twice, and one of the teams had a losing record. So, I’m clueless, or my teams peek at the right time. As we are coming to the conclusion of the first weekend of NFL action, I just might eek out a win. A couple of things need to break my way, but it is possible.

The other thing that happens during this time of year is that I have a group of friends from college, who are all Dallas Cowboy fans, and we have a group chat that continues during their games. We’ve been doing this chat for sixteen years, and we still have yet to win a Super Bowl…

And last night on Sunday Night Football, we were all ready to go. Positive that this WILL BE THE YEAR, that the COWBOYS will WIN THE SUPER BOWL!!!

But it would appear that the Cowboys don’t have a deep threat, which ends up making the Offense pretty vulnerable. Now, the Defense still looked solid. They did hold Tampa Bay to 19 points, which I think included shutting down Brady in the Red Zone three times.

Oh, and Dak broke his hand and will be out for weeks…

    Super Bowl?

Ever heard of Cooper Rush? Most people haven’t, and he’s the Cowboys back up QB. Last year he had the game of his life in his one start against the Vikings, in a must win game, and he found a way for them to win. I admit that I made jokes about the guy, and how hopeless the team would be in that game. I was thoroughly shamed by Mr. Rush, and will hold my tongue as he takes over for the rest of the foreseeable season.

Now, we should get back to the real issue of this team, which is Jerry Jones letting Amari Cooper leave, and not getting a deep threat receiver replacement for him. Yes, I will blame Jerry Jones for any failure on this team, that’s just how I was raised as a Cowboys fan. I do have a feeling that some “dealing” will happen in the next few weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy G shows up, along with some veteran receivers as well. Better late than never, right?

Man, this could be a long Cowboys season.
