  • Earworm Wednesday: I Just Never Liked the Song

    I would like to believe that I am not a contrarian. That if I don’t like or enjoy something, it’s because I have a good reason for it.

    In that vein, I have never been a fan of “Waterfalls” by TLC. I have nothing against TLC, I think they’re a solid group. And I fully admit that “Waterfalls” is a good pop-music song, and deserves all the recognition and alcolades it has earned.

    But I just never liked the song. Sorry.

    Yet, “Waterfalls” does have have a hell of a hook in its chorus. When I hear it, like yesterday at Trader Joe’s, it just lodges in my head. Which means I am on day two of humming that song.

  • Earworm Wednesday: You know, That Music They Play, the “Curb” Theme

    Not to get too political, but has anyone seen that video of Katie Britt, the Senator from Alabama, where they zoom in on her face as she figures out that they made a huge, embarrassing mistake in trying to “trap” Jack Smith over an Atlanta Hawks game he never attended? Its this video:

    Ever since I saw that video, I’ve had the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme playing in my head on repeat.

  • Earworm Wednesday: Popped in My Head

    I have no real story with the song “Brother Louie.” It just popped into my head on Monday, and has been there ever since. It’s the chorus that keeps replaying. I don’t hate the song, but I don’t think I have it on a playlist, or anything.

  • Earworm Wednesday: It’s a Classic, But It Still Won’t Leave My Head

    There really isn’t a story here, other than the song popped into my head over the weekend, and just has gone away. Not a part of the song, the whole thing keeps playing. Not sure why, and there are worse song that can get stuck in your head…

    I take it back, I have one funny ancidote about this song. My kid confuses “Rocketman” and “Space Oddity.” She says one is sung by the guy who used to wear funny costumes, and the other is sung by the guy who is an alien.

  • Earworm Wednesday: This Charming Man

    It all started one night last week, when I was trying to explain to my kid what “Indie Rock” was and why me and her mom love it so much. For whatever very sad reason, we had never played anything by The Smiths for her. I thought “How Soon is Now” would have been the song my kid latched onto. Nope, “This Charming Man” was the big winner.

    My reward for this evening of Music education was that this song has been stuck in my head all week. And I still don’t have a stitch to wear…
